What A Marvelous Night For A Premiere

I can’t believe I went to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel premiere! Like, I’m still SO SHOOK!!! I have wanted to go to a premiere in the city for the longest time and the fact that my roommate was so kind to invite me, I can never repay her for such a fabulous experience! AND on top that, I met RACHEL BROSNAHAN!!! Yes, the one and only Midge Maisel, the star of the show. I’m still in shock by that one but I’ll get into that later. For now, let’s start from the top and set the scene…

The premiere took place at the MOMA museum and considering its size and layout, I was curious how everything was going to be set up; When we arrived, we saw them holding the “pink” carpet in the lobby, and sending everyone who wasn’t press downstairs to the theater. Before we headed down ourselves, my roommate chatted with two of her friends who were working the carpet, while I caught a glimpse of Marine Hinkle killing it on the carpet! If someone were to look at my eyes in that moment, I’m sure stars would have been seen LOL! Anyways, I would have loved to stay longer to see everyone else walk through, but we were told to keep moving. So, with that, down to the theater we went!

Our seats were on the far left side of the orchestra area, right on the aisle which ended up being prime for cast arrivals. The showing itself was delayed 30 mins, so while we waited, we watched and analyzed everyone around us. Some dressed up in costumes, others dressed to the nines, and some honestly dressed very casual like they were going to the movies. I couldn’t take my eyes of off the scene as I anxiously listened to the conversations around me, hoping to overhear something good. I didn’t really hear any gossip, but from what I was able to grasp, the majority of the people there were present were either press, people who worked on the show, or people who had connections. After about 30-40 minutes of listening and waiting, the next thing I knew was four members of the cast were sitting right on the OTHER SIDE of the aisle from me! I couldn’t believe how close I was. Like if I stood up and leaned over to the right, I could touch them. That’s definitely when my “OMG IS THIS REAL” feeling started. Tony Shalhoub and Rachel Brosnahan both walked passed me as well, but ended up sitting towards the front with their families. Finally, an Amazon executive walked on stage to speak and introduce the creators and power couple of the show, Amy and Dan Palladino, who briefed us on what is to come this season, as well as thank the cast and crew members for a fantastic job well done. And then, just like that, we were watching the first episode of season three! It was absolutely fabulous (as expected), but I do have to say, what made it even more special was seeing it live. There is just something so magical about hearing people clap and react to what is being shown on screen. Truly a moment I will never forget. Now, onto the after party...

As soon as the show ended, my roommate and I walked over to The Plaza Hotel (yes, the one Eloise used to live in) and entered a gorgeous ballroom that was lit up with pink lights and designed just like Miami Beach in the late 50s (an innuendo for the new season maybe?). A live band was playing fabulous music, while food and hors d'oeuvres were served. There was no proper structure except to walk around and mingle, and to be honest, doing so I went through a mix of emotions. From being extremely giddy and having a pinch me moment, to a bit of awkwardness and anxiety because even though this is what I have dreamed of, I didn’t know anyone there besides my roommate. But, I pushed through to the best of my ability regardless of who I knew and I’m so glad I did because... I ended up MEETING RACHEL BROSNAHAN and I’m still in fan girl mode, if you couldn’t tell. I will explain next just because I can’t wait any longer and so I can relive the moment myself!

OK SO, My roommate and and I were making our rounds to see more of the space and who was there and as we walked closer to the back, I saw her talking to a couple of the executives with her back facing towards us. Even though I’ve met other celebrities before, there was something about seeing her right in front of me looking so perfect that had me seriously star struck. I legit couldn’t stop starring, and my nerves out of no where went through the roof. I honestly wasn’t sure what to do, but in the moment I decided to get over it because I knew it was so worth it! I didn’t see too many other cast members taking pictures in general so I didn’t know if I could ask, but before I could even second guess the possibility of going up to her, someone beat me to it and asked for a one, which she gladly said yes too. That was my green light, I was going in! Except, just as I started walking, some other people came up to her to chat so I moved at a glacial pace towards her until I felt the moment was right. She took a couple more press pictures as I stood there waiting and then IT HAPPENED. She started to back away from the group she was surrounded by and just before she could go anywhere else, I tapped her gently on the shoulder and said “Rachel?” She turned around to look at me and I kid you not for a hot sec I FROZE. I collected myself and tried to put a sentence together without sounding like an idiot but all I could come up with while my legs were shaking was “the show was wonderful you were so good!”, and blacked out from there on anything else I said. There was a slight pause after she thanked me for the compliment and then goes “I’m Rachel” and puts out her hand with a smile. I grabbed it and smiled back with “I’m Dana it’s so nice to meet you!” That put me a bit at ease because it made the conversation more normal and humanized what just happened. It all of a sudden changed the dynamic from me just being a fan to simply meeting someone knew, which I truly appreciated and respected of her in that moment. Afterwards, I kindly asked if I could take a photo with her and then BOOM. The picture was shot and I died inside of pure happiness. I thanked her again and we parted our separate ways. I scurried back to my roommate all excited and worked up over what just took place and immediately thought about going up to some of the other cast members to try and get pictures with them too, but it never felt like the right time and honestly, after meeting Rachel, I was very content! And knowing myself, I’m sure there will be another opportunity in the future anyways :)

The night overall was truly magical and one I will never forget. It only makes me more excited and hopeful of what’s to come and if anyone is obsessed like I am with this show, it is absolutely worth the binge watch when it drops on December 6th on Amazon. Until then, I’ll be here starring at my photo with Rachel.

Tits Up! (If you know, you know)
